The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team is going on a victory tour after their Women’s World Cup victory earlier this summer. That victory tour will make its way to what has quickly become the soccer capitol of the South.
Brazil’s national team site let it leak that Brazil will play the U.S. at the Orlando Citrus Bowl on Oct. 25, reportedly at 3 p.m. A formal announcement is expected early this week.
This is obviously another major victory for the Orlando soccer community as the city continues to make a name for itself as a place to hold soccer games (despite using a turf field at the Citrus Bowl).
The U.S. women played Brazil before at the Citrus Bowl back in November 2013. That game drew 20,274 fans according to the Orlando Sentinel, the largest attended game for the women that year. It was an electric atmosphere as the U.S. won 4-1.
And obviously bringing Brazil to Orlando will generate a ton of interest. This game could easily surpass that initial game two years ago because of the added interest of the U.S.’s victory tour along with the opponent — U.S. and Brazil are already two of the top women’s teams in the world.
It should be another exciting exhibition game at the Citrus Bowl as the soccer world continues to descend upon Orlando for some major games. These are the exact kind of events the Orlando Citrus Bowl hoped to attract with its renovation (the U.S.-Brazil game in 2013 was played before the renovations).
