Toronto Marlies send Kelly Cup MVP to Orlando Solar Bears

The Orlando Solar Bears got a big boost at goalie as the Toronto Marlies will send the recently acquired Rob Madore to the Solar Bears for the year’s start.

The Toronto Marlies assigned Kelly Cup MVP goalie Rob Madore to the Orlando Solar Bears on Tuesday, further bolstering the Solar Bears group of goalies. The Solar Bears had signed goalies Ryan Massa and Keegan Asmundson earlier this summer. The two young goalies were looking to prove themselves and cut their teeth. They should still get their chance.

As the Solar Bears though try to compete and win the Kelly Cup, a stated goal from coach Anthony Noreen and management, Madore’s track record is pretty impeccable.

Madore had a 2.64 goals against average for the Cincinnati Cyclones last year, going 16-19-10. In the Playoffs, he went 14-10 and with a 2.29 goals against average. Despite the Cyclones losing the series in six games, Madore was named the Kelly Cup Finals MVP.

Madore signed a two-way contract with the Marlies earlier this summer. So it is very likely Madore will spend time with both the Solar Bears and the Marlies throughout the season. The veteran ECHL player should be a solid addition when he is in Orlando. His development will be a constant storyline throughout the season.

The Solar Bears also acquired defender Mark Louis in exchange for forward Joe Basaraba.

Louis split 41 games with two AHL games and has played 181 games in the AHL the last four years. Last year in 34 games with the Portland Pirates, he posted a +6 as a defender.
