The Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl between the Florida Gators and Michigan Wolverines on Jan. 1 is nearing a sell out, the bowl reports.

It has been less than 24 hours since Florida Citrus Sports announced the mathcup for the 70th edition of the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl and the excitement has nearly overflowed the available space.

The Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl announced the Jan. 1 game between Michigan and Florida has nearly sold out with only single seat tickets remaining and the possibility the bowl opens up additional seats.

This is an incredibly anticipated matchup between two power-conference schools, including a local school in Florida. It is no surprise there is a ton of interest in the game from local fans and alumni alike.

The last time Michigan and Florida played each other was in the 2008 Capital One Bowl. The 41-35 Wolverines win had 69,748 fans in attendance. It is the highest attendance at the Citrus Bowl since 2005.

The Citrus Bowl with its renovation has a capacity of 70,000 fans. It certainly appears likely the Citrus Bowl will set a new decade high for attendance at the annual bowl game.

It should be an exciting matchup of two of the top defenses in the country.

The Gators struggled mightily on offense to end the year, but still had one of the most surprising and unexpected seasons in the country in winning the SEC East.

The Wolverines were expected to be in something of a transition too with new coach Jim Harbaugh taking over. Instead, the Wolverines had one of the top defenses and shocked the conference in many ways by challenging for the conference title.

There are exciting times ahead for both programs.
