The NFL will dominate Orlando Viewers one more time this Sunday with Super Bowl 50 between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers on CBS. The question will be does Super Bowl 50 get more viewers in Orlando then last year’s Super Bowl?
Super Bowl XLIV between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks last year was the most watched television program of the year in Central Florida with 1.352 million viewers.
While this year’s Super Bowl does not have the Patriots in the game — they are a big TV draw in Orlando — this year’s game does have Peyton Manning. Manning traditionally has been a big TV draw in Orlando.
Manning is involved in the two most watched NFL games of Orlando this season with the AFC Championship game win over the Patriots being number one. The Broncos’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Divisional playoff game is second most-watched game in Orlando this season.
Manning will end up being involved in the three most-watched NFL games in Orlando following the Super Bowl. Should Manning indeed retire following Super Bowl 50, one has to wonder which NFL player becomes the next big TV draw in Orlando like Manning has been to the point where local affiliates decided to air Manning’s games over a Tampa Bay Buccaneers home game like CBS-WKMG did in week 1 in September.
Some other numbers to keep in mind this Sunday. How will CBS’s postgame Super Bowl show do in Orlando compared to last year’s Super Bowl postgame show on NBC, which garnered 691,548 viewers in Orlando.
Last year NBC aired a new episode of The Blacklist following the Super Bowl coverage which got 257,062 viewers in Orlando. This year CBS will air a new episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert after the Super Bowl.
CBS announced Monday Fox News’ Megyn Kelly will be a guest on next Sunday’s post-Super Bowl show along with Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Margot Robbie and comedy duo Key and Peele. It will be interesting to see how Colbert will do in Orlando in the primetime slot following the Super Bowl and how many viewers he can carry over from Orlando.
NFL Pro Bowl Gets “Grease”
The NFL popularity in Orlando did not translate to the NFL Pro Bowl as the game on Sunday which aired on ESPN garnered 96,686 viewers according to Nielsen.
The Pro Bowl was the fourth most-watched TV program on Sunday behind Grease Live which topped Orlando viewers with 173,208 total viewers on FOX. 60 Minutes on CBS also beat the Pro Bowl with 132,037 viewers, while Madam Secretary on CBS had 119,693 viewers.
The Pro Bowl did edge out The Good Wife, which had 87,706 viewers on CBS, and American Ninja Warrior with 86,727 viewers on NBC.
