Florida State and Florida Citrus Sports have announced more than 20,000 tickets have been sold for Florida State’s spring game to be held at the Orlando Citrus Bowl on April 9, showing some incredible support for a transplanted spring game in the heart of the state.
Florida State has quickly taken over the city on gamedays with several locations to watch games throughout Downtown Orlando. There is some palpable excitement about not only having Florida State in town for the spring game but also for the team’s season opener against Ole Miss in the inaugural Orlando Kickoff Classic.
General admission tickets are still available for Florida State’s spring game for $5 and $11 on the day of the game.
The Seminoles, expected to be a contender to make the College Football Playoff in 2016, are conducting their annual spring game in Orlando because Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee is undergoing renovations.
The Orlando Citrus Bowl is quickly becoming the place to be for some major sporting events in Orlando.
It recently had more than 60,000 fans for the Orlando City season opener and expectations are that 30,000 fans will be packing the stadium for Friday’s game against the Chicago Fire.
The stadium also recently announced it will host Wrestlemania 33 in April 2017. When it last hosted Wrestlemania, the stadium set a stadium attendance record. There is a lot going on at the Citrus Bowl these days.
Florida State’s arrival will certainly pack that stadium in a way maybe people did not expect. This is a spring game after all but those fill stadiums throughout the country to serve the appetite of college football fans.
Orlando is often described as a college football market. This is a town that loves its football in a state that is all about some big college football programs. Not to mention Orlando hosts three bowl games now in the city. Florida State has its fair share of the market. Maybe even a bit more.
This is already shaping up to be a major event on the Orlando sports calendar, one that will be packed with fans.
