The UCF Knights took to the football practice field for the first time this spring, officially kicking off the Scott Frost era and the #UCFast era.
There is not a lot to gain out of the first day of practice other than that initial excitement and rush of being back on the field and getting to put to practice some of the concepts the team has discussed off the field.
This is a great time of learning. And making a few mistakes.
From Brandon Helwig of UCFSports.com:
“You’re never satisfied as a coach,” Scott Frost said. “It was exciting to be out there and watch them run around for the first time. We have a long way to go. That’s just step one. Whatever practice looked like today, the only thing I asked these guys is it’s going to look better tomorrow and then better the next day. If we keep ascending like that, we’re going to end up in a good place.”
Yes, the next few weeks ahead of the UCF #Fastival will be full of quick repetitions and mistakes. The team will be seeking to find leaders and find comfort in the new offense before taking the summer break before camp.
UCF is not thinking too far ahead to the fall and the opening day at the Bright House Networks Stadium. Justin Holman should be the starter, but Frost was not ready to guarantee him anything. There will be an adjustment for the rising senior coming out of the shotgun more often rather than under center.
The work has already begun.

The Knights have a lot of questions to answer after last year’s disappointing 0-12 season. A new coach only adds to those questions.
There is also no doubting the excitement suddenly surrounding this program. The promise of this offensive style and bringing a high-powered offense like Oregon’s spread-option attack to Orlando is extremely tantalizing.
This is a fan base that has wanted to take the next step. Last year only seemed to erase all the hard work already put into building up this program.
Now we see where the Knights go from here. There is only one way to go after last year: up. And the journey is just beginning.
