The league is announcing the home openers for every team today and will announce the full 2016 schedule sometime in early January.
Orlando City will not have quite the same marquee for its first home game of the 2016 season as it did for its inaugural year. That game, the Lions filled the Citrus Bowl with 60,000 fans in the #FillTheBowl campaign against the star-powered fellow expansion team New York City FC.
“2016 is shaping up to be an exciting season and we’re thrilled to have our first match scheduled at home,” said club founder and president Phil Rawlins in a press release. “Last year’s season opener was record-breaking, and we’re planning for another thrilling start to the Lions’ campaign this year in front of our wonderful fans, with several opening week festivities and events.”
Still the Lions are going to have a lot of fans for that home opener. Season tickets were capped at 18,000 and have completely sold out. Tickets are being sold to the opener and likely will go fast. It would not be surprising for Orlando City to open up more seats in the stadium.
No other games for the Lions were announced as they will not play against other teams in their home opener this season.
