Florida assistant Shimmy Gray-Miller is not a candidate for the vacant UCF women’s basketball coaching job, she tells Orlando Sports Daily.

A previous report had linked her to the open job as a potential candidate for the job. However, Gray-Miller said she has not been contacted by UCF and was never a candidate for the job.

The UCF Knights dismissed coach Joi Williams earlier this month and are still in the process of sorting out candidates and contacting them for interviews. Last week as the school announced Johnny Dawkins as its new men’s basketball coach, athletic director Danny White said the school has beginning the process of winnowing its candidate list down and bringing in candidates for interviews.

The Knights may very well be moving onto that phase and proceeding with their search.

UCF appears to be targeting some top assistants at a few big programs. White has targeted coaches with experience — either as a coach or a player, or both — with elite programs in his football and men’s basketball hires, it looks like he is trying to do the same with some of the rumored names.

It is important to note though that they are all rumors at this point. There have been no confirmed interviews from the UCF side. Both the rumor from Brandon Helwig of UCFSports.com and WHoopDirt.com are coming from coaching circles and not from the university.

What is very clear at this point is the Knights are in the midst of their search and winnowing a list down. Whether that means an announcement is coming soon, is another matter.

One thing we know for certain, Florida assistant Shimmy Gray-Miller has not been contacted about the job and is not part of the process to this point, if ever.
